5 Steps to a successful yoga practice
Becoming a yogi is not something that happens overnight. You don't wake up one morning magically set for success. No! Like everything, it requires preparation and determination…but thankfully, it’s not impossible. Take a breather. We will share with you a few tips that can improve your lifestyle and give you the little push you need in order to become the best version of yourself.
1. Set a calendar.
It’s crucial that you set time apart for yourself. We know you know it. However, everyday life with all its activities, social calls — and whatnot — can become pretty hectic quite fast. An easy way to overcome this is by organizing your schedule Sunday night. Try to schedule your daily routines at the same time every day. Stick to them. Open your eyes and instead of checking your social media, take your mat and remind yourself that you’re doing this for you and no one else. Say this affirmation out loud: “This will bring you peace and joy for the rest of the day.”
2. Commit to your workout.
A wise man once said, “by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” We believe he was definitely on to something. Prepare mentally and you will succeed. Before each practice, determine how much time you want to dedicate to your routine and stick to it. Don’t leave your mat until you’re done. It’s worth it.
3. Create a sacred, cozy space.
It’s quite hard to stay present in your practice when all you can hear is the ever noisier sound of your kids playing around, the tv, or the city. You need to create a space for yourself. This can be a small unused room, a corner of any bedroom, a place outside on the garden. All you need is a safe space free from the distractions of the world. Treat yourself. Play soothing or motivating music, burn incense, and put comfortable clothing.
4. Create a buddy system.
It’s easier to be accountable when you have a friend to rely on. Ask a friend to join you whenever you practice. It’ll make it more fun and you can make a morning/evening out of it.
5. Don’t think — just practice.
There will be days that you wake up feeling strong, like you’re on the top of the world. However, there will be other days that you will feel like doing absolutely nothing. What to do? Just practice. Take a deep breath, take your mat and carry on. You’ll feel great after you’re done. No one regrets having finished a routine.
These are only little things but they can truly make a difference. Step up your game today.
